One thing that is guaranteed to bring people together is food, and nothing is more satisfying than growing your own food and sharing it with friends. There have been a lot of studies showing that people's wellbeing and health improves in relation to their access to fresh, home-cooked food, shared with friends and family. In a world where junk food is ubiquitous and increasingly advertised at children, it is important that we do as much as we can as a community to teach kids where food comes from, how to grow it, and what constitutes a healthy diet.
Bearing all of this in mind, Otley CLT have been looking to find some land to play host to our own growing space, that we will hopefully be able to share with the community at large. We have now found an excellent, vacant site, and would like to invite anybody who is interested to contact us if they would like to get involved. Involvement could take many different forms:
- You could come to one of our Saturday morning (10am) weekly work parties
- You could come down on an evening and help water the plants
- You could donate some unwanted garden tools or plants
- Just come down to share some knowledge and eat some of the fruits of our labours.
For more details, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or come down to the allotment at 10am on a Saturday morning. It is on Birdcage Walk, at the bottom of Johnny Lane.
