We at Otley CLT have been looking at ways in which we can engage the wider community for a while now. One idea we had was to host a series of lectures or workshops, that would be open to anybody locally. People can attend these events and learn a new skill or just expose themselves to some new ideas.
For our first event, we have decided to collaborate with "Pizza and Politics", a regular event that is held in the Labour Rooms in Otley.
We have been very fortunate to have Dr. Dorian Speakman agree to speak at our first event. Dr. Speakman is a member of the Marginal Lands Project, which studies the lessons we can learn from people who live and farm at the margins of the British Isles. Dr. Speakman explains: "We have had our share of extreme weather - droughts and floods are already having an effect on our farms and our gardens. With more to come, what lessons can we learn from those growing food sustainably at small scale in the toughest climates of the British Isles? This talk will be of interest to all who garden, farm, grow food, or care about climate change."
There will also be a brief update on the progress of Otley CLT at the start of the event.
We look forward to see lots of new and old faces there.
